Travis King, a U.S. soldier originally en route to the United States after facing assault allegations in South Korea, escaped into North Korea. He had spent seven weeks in a detention facility before being transferred back to the United States. He left the airport on his own after being released by Army escorts at a security checkpoint, then disguised himself as a tourist, and crossed the demilitarized zone border into North Korea on July 18.

King sought refuge in North Korea due to his claim of disillusionment with the perceived “unequal U.S. society.”

Unfortunately for Travis King, North Korea has decided to expel King and has since released him to American custody through China. Travis King is currently en route back to the United States.

Netizens have generally seen the situation as being hilarious, with many asking just how useless Travis King must be to North Korea’s propaganda machine. Others have commented on his luck and hope that he appreciates his second chance at life.
