Two adults arrested for distributing “Gummy Bears” to 7 Elementary Students in Virginia

Clifford Dugan (50) and Nicole Sanders (26) are charged with drug-related and weapons charges after seven 4th-grade elementary school students in VA experienced a reaction after eating gummy bears from a bag that was laced with fentanyl.

According to the Amherst County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday, they have been charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

On Tuesday, Amherst County School District officials confirmed seven students at Central Elementary School needed medical attention after the students had eaten something during lunch. Five students were taken to the hospital to treat their nausea, vomiting, and lethargy symptoms.

The Amherst County Sheriff’s Office tested positive for fentanyl from the plastic bag for carrying the gummy bears.

It was revealed by one of the students that he’d brought gummy bears from his home to school to share the gummy bears with his friends during the lunch break, according to NBC News affiliate WSLS.

The Amherst Elementary School is located near Lynchburg, Virginia, a rural area.
