The suspect is now in custody without further incident by the US Marshals Carolina Regional Fugitive Task Force. An investigation is ongoing regarding the shooting at the Mount Tabor High School in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on Wednesday. The shooting left 1 student dead, with about 1,500 students in panic; the shooter is also a student of the high school according to the Winston-Salem police Chief, Catrina Thompson.
The wounded student, William Chavis Raynard Miller Jr. was taken to a local hospital where he died. After the incident, police blocked roads to the school and the school was put on lockdown for student’s safety. After searching for the suspect for hours, they were able to find and arrest him before the end of the day.
Gov. Roy Cooper said in a statement that this was the second shooting in the state this week after a 15-year-old high school student was charged with shooting and wounding a student from Wilmington High School just Monday.
“We must work to ensure the safety of students and educators, quickly apprehends the shooter, and keep guns off school grounds,” Gov.Cooper said.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family today and in the difficult days to come,” the Winston-Salem Police Department said on its Twitter account. The school has about 1,530 students enrolled for this year.
