$1,200 Second Round Stimulus Checks for Americans?

Second Stimulus Check will be introduced by Senate Republicans today according to Associated Press (AP).

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) mentioned second stimulus checks will arrive to Americans soon, but that it is in the negotiation table in between White House, Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin, and Chief of Staff Mark Meadows.

However, despite the disbursement of the first stimulus check to American families, unemployment rate is high, and unemployment benefits will end this weekend. Many Republicans believe stimulus checks and unemployment benefits have only slowed the rate in which Americans have been willing to return to work, affecting unemployment rates.

Republicans propose $105 billion ($70 billion to K-12, $30 billion to colleges and Universities, $5 billion for governors to spend at their discretion) to open schools and $15 billion for child care centers, according to AP.

Democrats want approximately $1 trillion for state and local aid, and $430 billion to re-open schools.

President Donald Trump said he would consider vetoing the stimulus package if it does not include a payroll tax cut, but many Republicans opposed against it.

PPP (Payroll Protection Program) is expected to extend so that the unspent $134 billion may be disbursed.

Senate Republicans also have plans to propose $25 billion to improve coronavirus testing and contract tracing.

Senate will decide on the fate of new set of stimulus checks, and the President will have the chance to review and decide what will best improve his odds for the upcoming November election.
