A rare tropical storm has formed in the Atlantic Ocean and is heading West-Northwest. A humid and muggy day in North America is expected to experience thunderstorms with rain and weather.com alerts that we might have an unwelcomed guest from an unusual place to visit the U.S. in the next several days.

A tropical storm Bret formed in the Atlantic Ocean, to the east of the Lesser Antilles and western Africa. Typically June storms have started on the Gulf Coast, the Caribbean Sea, and the East Coast. Tropical Storm Bret could become a threat to the residents of the Lesser Antilles late this week, according to Weather.com.

It will gain strength by the end of this week and could become a hurricane. 3 of 79 June storms since the 19th century have formed east of the Lesser Antilles, according to NOAA’s database.

Residents in the Lesser Antilles, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands should “closely monitor updates to the forecast” and “have their hurricane plan in place,” the hurricane center tweeted Monday morning.
