ICE Negatively Affects Communities Due to Deportation

6월 6일, CASA 는 이민국 볼티모어 지국 직원에 의해 구속된 예수스페라자씨를  본국으로 송환한다고 결정함에  따라 이는 볼티모어의 조직 사회를 뒤 흔드는 조치라고 비난했다.

페라자씨는 아들 학교에서 몇 블락 떨어지지 않은 곳에서 이민국 직원들에게 잡혔다. 그리고 며칠 있으면 그는 온두라스로 송환이 될 예정이라고 한다.

이민국은 송환으로 인해 미국 시민권자들이 고통을 받게 되는 경우와 본국으로 송환될 예정자가 지역사회에 아무런 해를 끼치지 않을 경우엔 송환에서 제외되는 규정이 있다고 한다. 그럼에도 불구하고 페라자씨는 본국으로 송환되게 되었다.

페라자씨는 두 명의 아들들(미국 시민권자) 와 곧 출산 예정인 아들이 이 규정에 의거되지만 그가 볼티모어에서 있을 수 있는 시간은 이제 며칠 남지 않았다. 아들들은 학교안에서 갑자기 아버지의 송환 결정으로 인해 패닉 상태에 빠져 있으며, 학교 전체가 갑자기 일어난 이 일로 인해 어떻게 대처해야 할 지 난감한 상태라고 CASA  는 말한다.

Elizabeth Alex 볼티모어 CASA 지국장은 “우리 자녀들의 부모가 본국으로 송환되게 되면 전 지역사회가 고통을 받게 된다.” 라고 말하며, 트럼프 행정부의 강압적인 이민법 적용에 대해 목소리를 높였다.

BALTIMORE (TUESDAY, JUNE 6, 2017) _ CASA condemns the failure of the  Baltimore Field Office Director of Enforcement and Removal Operations to grant a stay of deportation to Jesus Peraza, a beloved member of our Baltimore community.

Peraza, an immigrant who was arrested by the U.S Immigration and Customs Enforcement a few block from his  son’s school, was denied the last attempt at staying in the country Tuesday and is now only days away from being deported.

ICE has the authority to grant discretionary relief in cases where U.S. citizens will suffer as a result of deportation and in cases where the detainee poses no threat to the community.  Jesus meets and exceeds both of these qualifications as a father of 2 children with another son due to be born in the next few days right here in Baltimore.

His eldest son’s school community is devastated, and the broader community outraged by this failure of justice. Peraza will be deported to Honduras where he faces extreme danger, leaving his wife and 3 children behind.

“Today’s denial of justice and humanitarian relief is yet another failure of the Trump administration and its deportation machine” said Elizabeth Alex, Regional Director for CASA in Baltimore “When our children are separated from their parents, our entire community suffers.”
