Gov. Abbott Approves Bill to Allow Police Action on Illegal Migrants

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott approved the Bill that allows the use of police power on migrants who illegally cross the U.S. border and gives local judges the authority to order them to leave the U.S.

In the press conference, he emphasized that in Constitutional law, if there is no presenting “Federal authority” on enforcing certain actions against illegal migrants, the State can enact laws to deal with the issue associated with illegal migrants.

The law will take effect in March, allowing any Texas law enforcement officer to arrest people who are crossing the country illegally. According to AP, after being taken into custody, the illegal migrants could agree to the Texas judge’s order to leave the U.S. or be prosecuted on misdemeanor charges of illegal entry.

Governor Abbot was previously criticized by the mayors of the Sanctuary Cities which are New York City, Washington D.C., and Chicago, when he packed illegal immigrants into buses and forced them out of Texas.
