Fairfax, VA – CASA, CAIR Coalition, CREDO Action, community activists, residents, and elected officials will meet on Wednesday, April 10 at 12:00 p.m. to urge the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors to vote in support of funding the $200k comprehensive universal representation pilot program on April 30, 2019.
The pilot program would provide legal representation to immigrants living in Fairfax County who are facing deportation proceedings, and who are in need of counsel—including lawful permanent residents, DACA recipients, and TPS holders.
“My husband and I work full-time to be able to give our family a place to live. We have two children with DACA. If one of us is detained by ICE I know for sure we won’t have the resources to afford a lawyer. This program will allow us to have legal representation,” said Carmen Rios, Fairfax Co. Resident.
If the Board of Supervisors funds this pilot program on April 30, Fairfax County will be the first jurisdiction in Virginia with such a program.
Advocates will also release the results of voter polling spanning all 9 magisterial districts showing overwhelming support for immigrant priorities, including universal representation.
