Dec. 8, 2014, The Dulles Corridor Rail Association held its Annual Meeting and Reception to celebrate the opening of the Silver Line Phase 1. Mark Carrier (B. F. Saul Company Hospitality Group), Sharon Bulova (The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors), Sen. Jannet D. Howell (District 32, D-VA), John E. Potter (Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority), Larry Melton (The Dulles Transit Partners), Catherine Hudgins (WMATA Board member and Fairfax County Board of Supervisors of Hunter Mill District), Charles Stark (Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project and Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority). Del. Keam (District 35, D-VA), and Grace Han Wolf (Herndon Council) attended the celebration.

At the welcoming remark, Sharon Bulova was enthusiastic about Phase 2 of the Silver Line Metro, as they plan to link the line to Dulles International Airport. She remarked that Silver Line Phase 1’s success should be attributed to Del. Plum, who worked tirelessly to convince the General Assembly and established this Coalition to bring about the extension of the metro system.

John E. Porter added to the importance of Phase 2, stating that on Thanksgiving, 2014, more than 1,000 people used buses to go back and forth from the airport. He claimed that funding from the state of Virginia, Fairfax County, and the US Federal government were not only important, but integral to achieving a successful Phase 2 in the next five years, as the Silver Line tries to link DC and Northern Virginia to Dulles International Airport via metro.

The Silver Line project was a job creator, as more than 1,000 contract workers were involved in the building and development of the Silver Line Phase 1. Larry Melton stated that people around the area have gained hope from the building of the Silver Line, and that its building has helped boost the local economy. He even stated that one of the construction workers thanked him as his child chose to pursue civil engineering after being inspired by the work done on Silver Line.

Del. Kenneth Plum (District 36, D-VA) established this Silver Line Coalition and have worked for this project for more than two decades. He has been working tirelessly to bring about benefits to Northern Virginia area, and hopes that Silver Line will be of great benefit to the overall economy and social atmosphere of Northern Virginia.
