The event is the only political event of its kind in the Washington D.C. area that celebrates Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. It is a gathering of community leaders, business leaders, democratic activists and elected officials from Virginia and across the country. The 2016 Community Engagement Awardees are – Delegate Mark Keam (VA-35) and Bel Leong-Hong (DNC AAPI caucus Chair). Delegate Mark Keam is the first Asian-born immigrant elected to serve the oldest continuous legislative body in the Northern hemisphere, the Virginia General Assembly.
