DAAV announces of 2016 Community Engagement Awardees to Mark Keam, and Bel Leong -Hong

Arlington, Va. – In celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, the Democratic Asian Americans of Virginia (DAAV) will host its 2nd Annual Awards Dinner on May, 18, 2016 in Arlington, Va. The dinner will honor individuals who have made significant contributions to the Asian- American Pacific Islander community.

The event is the only political event of its kind in the Washington D.C. area that celebrates Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. It is a gathering of community leaders, business leaders, democratic activists and elected officials from Virginia and across the country.

The 2016 Community Engagement Awardees are – Delegate Mark Keam (VA-35) and Bel Leong-Hong (DNC AAPI caucus Chair).

Delegate Mark Keam is the first Asian-born immigrant elected to serve the oldest continuous legislative body in the Northern hemisphere, the Virginia General Assembly. Bel Leong-Hong is in

the most influential women in 50, Democratic National Committee’s AAPI Caucus Chair.

working in the trenches for our community for many years,” said Dewita Soeharjono, DAAV Chair/President.
