A Federal Judge in the California Northern District Court ruled against Pres. Biden’s asylum policy, which was created to lower border crossing numbers. The ruling is currently on hold for 14 days for a possible appeal by the Department of Justice.
Judge Jon Tigar previously ruled against a similar policy under the Trump administration, expressing criticism regarding any perceived difference between the Trump-era policy versus the Biden-era policy against asylum seekers.
Funnily enough, Biden’s policy is not popular with either aisle, as even the Republican states have filed lawsuits.
If the Justice Department appeals the ruling, this case will go to the Ninth Circuit Court, which is likely to affirm Judge Jon Tigar’s ruling.
While the general arrest of illegal immigrants has been lower in recent years, the influx of asylum seekers is not decreasing, partially fueled by the devastation left by the response to the Covid 19 pandemic.
