The mass killing shooter at VTA in San Jose on Wednesday morning which killed 10 people including himself, Samuel Cassidy (57) had kept 25,000 rounds of ammunition, 17 Molotov cocktails, 12 firearms, multiple gasoline cans at his house according to the Santa Clara County Sheriff’ Office said Friday.
The killer was questioned by Homeland security in 2016. Since then, he kept books related to terrorism and hatred-filled notes about his coworkers. But not many people knew about this until Wednesday. According to Sheriff’s investigators, the gunman was an outsider at his work, and he was “a disgruntled VTA employee for many years”. This mass shooting left 7people dead at the scene and 2 people at the hospital, while the shooter killed himself with a self-inflicted wound.
Authority is still seeking the motive of this crime and how he collected so many weapons. According to Sheriff’s Office, “based on current evidence obtained, the suspect planned this event and the suspect was prepared to use his firearms to take as many lives as he could [have] Sheriff’s Deputies not made entry to stop his rampage,” in a statement.
The firearm squad discovered “potential explosive precursor materials” at the suspect’s home and the VTA rail yard, the sheriff’s office said. Bomb squad personnel scoured the rail yard and didn’t find any explosives.
