Asian American Chamber of Commerce Celebrates the Lunar New Year with Trivia and Performances – 코리일보

Asian-American Chamber of Commerce (President: Cindy Shao) held celebration of Chinese New Year of 2019, so called “The year of Golden Pig for 2019” at Potomac Mill Mall on Feb. 9, 2019.

People’s eyes and feet stopped to marvel at the spectacle in front of them. At the center of the Potomac Mill Center was the Asian Lunar Year Celebrations, held by the Asian-American Chamber of Commerce (President: Cindy Shao)for the last three years.

In celebration of the Lunar New Year (February 5) in 2019, performers presented Asian traditional dance and musical instruments, and China’s greatest illustrator presented calligraphy, introducing the Chinese New Year’s Dharma Culture.

In the meantime, the host preserved gifts to patrons at the mall for correct answers given to various trivia questions.

In an interview with a Greek family from the crowd, the individuals stated that they’d received an email notification about the event being held at Potomac Mills. He showed a rising interest in Asian culture and enthusiastically participated.

The children sat on the floor with their knees and gazing at the Chinese dancers.

The Chinese artist came directly from China for the event and displayed beautiful calligraphy, wishing for a new wonderful year.

A woman who came from Mexico had a sad and heartbreaking thing happened in last year and stated that she had the fortune calligraph written on the New Year’s Day and seemed to have had the strength to stand up again this year.

The Chinese lunar calendar is called the Chinese New Year, but it also means to wait for the spring of hope after the end of the cold winter.

Shao, head of the Asian-American Chamber of Commerce said she has been regularly presenting Asian culture for the past four years at major malls in the Washington area and decided to hold a third annual event at Potomac Mill Center this year.

포토맥 밀 몰에서 쇼핑을 나온 많은 사람들의 눈과 발길을 단 한 순간에 집중시키는 곳이 있었다. 포토맥 밀 몰의 중앙, 항상 무엇인가 새로운 볼 거리를 만들던 곳은 지난 3년 전 부터 아시안-아메리칸 상공회의소가 개최하는 아시안 음력 설 축제로 몰을 찾는 사람들의 마음을 더 즐겁게 해 주고 있다.
지난 2019년 음력 설(2월 5일)을 맞이하여 아시안 전통 무용과 악기 연주, 중국의 최대 명필가인 작가가 한시를 Calligraphy으로 써서 중국인들의 새해 덕담 문화를 소개하기도 했다. 용이 밑 바탕에 새겨진 빨간 색 종이에 작가가 직접 한 쌍의 덕담을 써서 대문이나 거실에 걸어 놓아 악귀를 쫒는다는 의미의 시는 수 천년을 지내오면서 중국인의 삶과 함께 세대를 이어주며 전통으로 계속 내려오고 있다.

간간이 진행자는 설과 관련된 중국 문화에 대한 퀴즈로 관중들의 관심에 대한 답례로 몰에서 판매하는 선물권이나 각종 선물을 주었다.
관중들 중에서 그리스 출신의 한 가족을 만나 인터뷰를 했다.
어떻게 알고 왔느냐는 기자의 질문에, 그리스 출신 청년은 포토맥 밀 몰 앱에서 행사를 한다고 알려주는 이메일을 받고 어머니와 함께 참석했으며, 어머니는 중국인 강사가 직접 가르쳐주는 “종이접기”에 참석하고 있다고 말했다. 자신은 역사에 관심이 많고 특히 아시아의 역사와 문화에 관심이 많이 이번 설 축제에 참석하게 되었다고 말했다.
아이들은 공연장에 무릎을 끓고 앉아서 중국 무희 소녀들의 춤 사위를 관심있게 바라보고 있었으며, 중국 작가가 이 행사를 위해 직접 중국으로부터 와서 Calligraphy 를 써서 보여 주자 행사장의 관객들은 서로 서로 카메라를 들이 대었다.

멕시코에서 왔다는 한 여성은 지난해 참 슬프고 가슴 아픈 일을 겪었는데 새해 덕담이 써진 행운의 칼리 그래프를 받고 올 해는 다시 일어설 수 있는 힘이 생긴 것 같다고 기자에게 말했다.
그녀는 지난 해 아들을 잃었던 슬픔에 휩싸여 있었으며, 이번에 두 번째 참석한다고 말하며 덕담의 뜻을 기자에게 물어보았으며, 기자는 행운의 덕담이라고 꼭 행복하기를 바란다고 말했다.
중국의 음력 설은 춘절이라고 부르는데 혹한의 겨울을 끝내고 희망의 봄을 기다린다는 뜻도 담겨있다.
아시안-아메리칸 상공회의소장인 챠오씨는 워싱턴 지역의 주요 몰에서 지난 4년 째 꾸준히 아시아의 문화를 소개하는 행사를 진행하고 있으며, 포토맥 밀 몰에서는 3년째 행사를 진행해오고 있다고 말했다.
