Liz Truss Moves into 10 Downing Street

Liz Truss is the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and moved into 10 Downing Street today. She served as a former Secretary of State for Foreign Commonwealth and Development Affairs since 2021. She won the race for this special seat against Rishi Sunak.

She is a conservative party member of parliament for South west Norfolk since 2010 and Minister for Women and Equalities since 2019. As of today, August 6, 2022, she is the new resident of 10 Downing Street as a new PM in the United Kingdom. The “Kissing hands” ceremony was held in Balmoral, Scotland due to 96 years old Queen Elizabeth II’s mobility being quite hard for her; she has been staying in Scotland for the summer.

Boris Johnson, the former Prime Minister gave a farewell speech outside of Downing Street early Tuesday. He told his supporters and the nation that he will support the new Prime Minister for the country. Johnson had been unsuccessful in his term and stayed less than three years at No. 10, covered in scandals including Covid-19 rule violations and lying about his own Cabinet member’s sex scandals. Brexit was Johnson’s success, which has since brought significant economic difficulties to the British Isles. After his scandals emerged, he and 40 other government resigned. He announced that he offered his resignation on July 7, 2022, and he would stay in office until a new successor came.

Truss is now a leader of the ruling Conservative Party and she is the third female Prime Minister and 15th leader of the queen’s 70 years of reign. Truss has lots of homework to do for 67 million citizens. She announced today, that she will cut taxes and deal with energy bills, the country’s overstretched health care system, and clook into correcting the economical recession.

Boris Johnson boasted that he sought to be like the former Prime Minister Winston Churchill, but he was hardly comparable, bringing much turmoil and destruction which may take decades to correct.
