Shooting at Local Walmart in Arkansas leaves shooter dead, and two police officers injured

Mayor Cedric Williams confirmed the death of the suspect who opened fire on two police officers at the Forrest City Walmart in Arkansas.

Observed to be “talking out of his mind” at the time of the shooting, the suspect did not survive the shooting. He was threatening people when the two police officers arrived and pulled the gun and shot both officers when they attempted to respond to the complaint.

Lt. Eric Varner and Detective Eugene Watlington were not wearing any body cameras or police vests at the time of the shooting, as the division does not require it; Varner was treated and released after the incident, but Detective Watlington was transported to a regional healthcare center in Memphis for surgery. He is expected to recover and be fine. Since then, Arkansas State Police have taken over the investigation of the incident.
