Covid-19’s Real Problem: Organ damage

As US sees 150,000 deaths from COVID-19, some of those who are for quick reopening tout the relatively low death percentage rate as an argument against the severity of COVID-19. However, those who are recovering from COVID-19 show something more sinister from coronavirus infection: organ damage.

Two German studies found that many patients recovering from COVID-19 had heart abnormalities that didn’t exist before. The study included 100 patients from the University of Hospital Frankfurt COVID-19 Registry.

1/3 on the registry recovered at the hospital, while the other 2/3 recovered at home; however, in the 78 of the original 100, there were now heart abnormalities, with 60 of them showing inflammation in the heart muscle from COVID-19.

This abnormality would not be found on the echograms more frequently used to detect heart abnormalities.

Such results are quite damaging; those who have this weakness will likely require more extensive treatments and be at risk for abnormal heart beats and other heart problems.

So yes, maybe COVID-19 only kills around 1 percent of those infected; however, the true harm of COVID-19 isn’t necessarily the fast death, but the lasting impact on the majority of those that recover from the disease; mostly, the weakening of the organs in the rest of the body.

Pickling: Prepping Greens During Pandemic Winter

US Colleges Decide Online or In-Class Cancellations for 2020 Fall Semester

With the Coronavirus on re-surge as states began reopening and with only a month before colleges are set to reopen, US colleges have decided to open only through online courses and cancelling in-class instructions. For example, Miami University in Ohio announced it would only hold classes online until September 21, and West Virginia University announced a delayed re-opening of August 21, a week later an original return date for students.

Higher ranking schools such as Harvard, George Washington, and California State Universities have also decided to hold mostly online undergraduate and graduate level courses.

Out of about 1,260 higher learning institutions in the US, only 49 percent will offer in-person instructions, 14 percent will offer full online coursework, and the rest, a mix.

Of course, this also affects out-of-state and international students heavily. Ithaca College in New York, for example, has decided that any student from states currently on prohibition list under New York state would be prohibited from returning for fall 2020. Online courses are already deemed ineligible for the student visa, so many students are forced to return home as well.

Education continues to be a topic of contention within US politics, and unfortunately, while coronavirus’ effect was abated to a limited extent thanks to the development of technology, remains a hot topic based on the safety needed for students to be healthy versus the declining academic aptitude due to lack of social interactions amidst the coronavirus pandemic and the need for social distancing.

Trump’s Republicans – Too dangerous to go mask-free, but too cheap to keep people out of danger

Next economic rescue package, as proposed by the senate Republicans will see $600 unemployment benefits decrease to $400, and again, forcing states to take charge of the unemployment benefits.

This proposal is part of another $1 trillion relief bill to handle the continued economic decline affected by the novel coronavirus.  Senate republicans want to reduce $600 to $200 until states can implement new approach in states that pays unemployed up the 70 percent of the income collected before the loss of their jobs, while the House Democrats wish to extend it until January due to high unemployment rates.

This isn’t just about survival however; Trump Republicans argue that people are unfairly using taxpayer dollars to sit at home rather than working or looking for jobs.

This is inaccurate portrayal of current events: there are 15 million fewer jobs. 11 percent of the population is unemployed.

The assumption behind the policy however, it something more selfish: it’s a Republican assumption that people want to resume economic activities at the level of pre-pandemic levels regardless of whether the coronavirus is controlled and removed. This is wrong.

As states reopened in May and June with decrease in coronavirus outbreaks, people went back to economic activity. Coronavirus numbers soared, and many states are being forced to close down again, or to impose the 14-day quarantines on people.

As people have seen the negative results of opening too quickly, if the coronavirus is not completely controlled, there will be no economic recovery; no normal return to work or the kind of shopping necessary to create jobs. While Trump and Republicans choose to not believe this, instead wanting to convince people to return to work.

Unfortunately however, Trump’s move to open too quickly may have shown Americans exactly why he shouldn’t be believed.

As total coronavirus infections in America surpasses 4 million people, it’s not belief of normalcy that Trump Republicans should convince people of; it is truth and good statesmanship, keeping people safe under this unforeseen crisis, that will benefit him come November.

Steve Wozniak sues Youtube and Twitter on failure to regulate Bitcoin scams

Steve Wozniak is concerned that major social networks such as YouTube and Twitter, are fast becoming platforms for bitcoin scammers, and he is suing these platforms for failing to regulate them.

The Co-founder of Apple, Steve Wozniak is suing YouTube. According to the Verge, scammers have been posting videos on YouTube that Wozniak is hosting a bitcoin promotion. They convinced some users that if they send bitcoin to a provided address, “Wozniak” will return, with their investments doubled.

“Youtube has featured a steady stream of scam videos and promotions that falsely use images and videos of Plaintiff Steve Wozniak, and other famous tech entrepreneurs, and that have defrauded YouTube users out of millions of dollars,” the complaint says.

These Scammers or hackers use the big figure, like Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Robert Kiyosaki, and about 15 other individuals as their targets to make nearly $120,000 with YouTube scam.

YouTube spokesperson said “We take abuse of our platform seriously, and take action quickly when we detect violations of our policies, such as scams or impersonation,” in a statement to the Verge.

Similar things have happened on Twitter, leading to major scandals.

Twitter CEO, Jack Dorsey wrote on his Twitter, “We all feel terrible this happened,” and “We’re diagnosing and will share everything we can when we have a more complete understanding of exactly what happened.”

$1,200 Second Round Stimulus Checks for Americans?

Second Stimulus Check will be introduced by Senate Republicans today according to Associated Press (AP).

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) mentioned second stimulus checks will arrive to Americans soon, but that it is in the negotiation table in between White House, Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin, and Chief of Staff Mark Meadows.

However, despite the disbursement of the first stimulus check to American families, unemployment rate is high, and unemployment benefits will end this weekend. Many Republicans believe stimulus checks and unemployment benefits have only slowed the rate in which Americans have been willing to return to work, affecting unemployment rates.

Republicans propose $105 billion ($70 billion to K-12, $30 billion to colleges and Universities, $5 billion for governors to spend at their discretion) to open schools and $15 billion for child care centers, according to AP.

Democrats want approximately $1 trillion for state and local aid, and $430 billion to re-open schools.

President Donald Trump said he would consider vetoing the stimulus package if it does not include a payroll tax cut, but many Republicans opposed against it.

PPP (Payroll Protection Program) is expected to extend so that the unspent $134 billion may be disbursed.

Senate Republicans also have plans to propose $25 billion to improve coronavirus testing and contract tracing.

Senate will decide on the fate of new set of stimulus checks, and the President will have the chance to review and decide what will best improve his odds for the upcoming November election.

Trump: Face masks are “Patriotic”

President Donald Trump on Monday tweeted “We are United in our effort to defeat the invisible China Virus, and many people say that it is Patriotic to wear a face mask when you can’t socially distance. There is nobody more Patriotic than me, your favorite President!” and he was wearing black mask on the photo to show on his account.

This comes just hours after Pres. Trump decided to resume the coronavirus task force briefings at the White House.

The data is clear: those states that enforce mask wearing has shown a decrease in coronavirus infections than those states that do not, as is shown by the lower infection rate in Virginia, mask endorsing state, versus California or Florida, where coronavirus infections have seen a new high and beginning to show impact on the local medical systems.

Pres. Trump however, does not plan to enforce a national mask mandate, which, given how Americans have responded to any “mandate,” shows that the policy would be highly ineffective, even if he were to take such action.

While Dr. Fauci and the Surgeon General initially did not endorse mask wearing in February and March, telling only those showing symptoms to wear masks, they soon changed their statements once they realized that wearing masks sooner would prevent the spread of coronavirus.

So far, 7 national chain stores (with more on the way) have begun mandating masks on Monday, and so did conservative states such as Arkansas.

As media and government now unite in their efforts to promote masks, more and more Americans are donning face coverings or masks to protect themselves and others from the spread of coronavirus.

Women-hating Lawyer Prime Suspect in the NJ Judge Son’s Killing

photo from Google Images

On July 19, 2020, a Mr. Den Hollander, a lawyer with a history of filing frivolous (legal term for useless) lawsuits against any “feminist” programs such as women’s studies programs and “ladies’ nights” at local nightclubs showed up at the NJ Judge Esther Salas’ home in North Bruswick, NJ, dressed up in what seemed like FedEx uniform.

There, the Judge’s son, 20-year old Daniel Andrel was shot on the heart, and his father, 63-year old, Mark Andrel (criminal defense lawyer), was shot multiple times. The Judge was was in the basement when the shooting occurred and rushed upstairs.

The son was an only child, about to start junior year at Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., with hopes of joining the legal profession. Unfortunately, he was killed. Mr. Mark Andrel is alive, but in critical condition.

Den Hollander was found dead near Liberty, NY. It seems to be an apparent suicide; he had told another lawyer taking over a case that challenged the male-only draft for the US military, that Mr. Hollander had terminal cancer.

Den Hollander seems to have had significant issues; he often wrote thousands of pages on hating women, including his 1,700-page self-published book on Judge Esther Salas as being lazy and incompetent.

Mr. Hollander deemed himself a “Men’s Rights” individual, with hateful, abusive, and misogynistic language against “Feminazis.” Most of his online creeds were thousands of pages long.

It certainly does not help Mr. Hollander’s case, that he went through a bitter divorce with a woman from Russia about ten years ago, a moment that he attributes as the moment when he realized the “evilness” of women.

FBI is currently investigating other potential links and leads.

What’s ridiculously appalling, among many other aspects of Mr. Hollander, was that the Judge Salas was the judge that allowed his lawsuit against the Selective Service System, yet he still held a grudge against her for not moving the case along fast enough.

It is a terrible price to pay for one crazed man’s irrational ideology. The fact that Judge Salas’ family will never see justice for the crime done is even more heartbreaking. Condolences to Judge Salas and her family on the loss of their dear son.

Early Openers Begin to See Death Rates Climb: Florida hits 4,000 Total Deaths

Photo from Google Images

On Thursday, Florida reported 120 fatalities, upping the total death rate to 4,111. This includes nonresidents, as Florida was one of the first states to open itself up.

Confirmed coronavirus cases continue to climb, and hospitals are choosing to cancel elective surgeries to have enough beds for COVID-19 patients.

Florida’s total is at 232,718, with additional 8,935 reported recently. In the past two weeks, Florida saw a doubling of new cases, of 118,700.

At the moment, only 15 percent of intensive care unit beds are available in the state, and it is unclear how many will need them.

Florida had never reported more than 100 death a day, but that record was broken on Thursday with 120 fatalities.

The Black Plague in 2020? China Cracks down on bubonic plague outbreak

In the remote northern region of China, public health authorities are working to contain and prevent the small outbreak of bubonic plague after a herder contracted the disease.

As there is limited number of cases and modern medicine, risk is considered to be low. However, due to this, Inner Mongolia region has now banned hunting, skinning, and transportation of rodents that may carry the Yersinia pestis, and alerted that there is a risk of human plague epidemic spreading in the city. In the past year, there were 5 cases of the bubonic plague, which is hardly the numbers seen during medieval Europe, Asia, and Africa.

The measures to prevent the spread of bubonic plague is to stay until 2021, and China is warning its citizens to avoid entering Inner Mongolia in the near future.

China has recently acted as an incubator for all sorts of diseases: COVID-19 from the Coronavirus, new type of swine flu that could cause a pandemic, and now, bubonic plague, all in 2020. Thankfully however, the bubonic plague does not see the kinds of numbers it used to kill. Nonetheless, a new variation of the H1N1 swine flu, called G4, is being watched by governments worldwide, and the US is keeping a close eye on the G4, as it continues to deal with surging coronavirus infection rate in the population.
