Trump: Face masks are “Patriotic”

President Donald Trump on Monday tweeted “We are United in our effort to defeat the invisible China Virus, and many people say that it is Patriotic to wear a face mask when you can’t socially distance. There is nobody more Patriotic than me, your favorite President!” and he was wearing black mask on the photo to show on his account.

This comes just hours after Pres. Trump decided to resume the coronavirus task force briefings at the White House.

The data is clear: those states that enforce mask wearing has shown a decrease in coronavirus infections than those states that do not, as is shown by the lower infection rate in Virginia, mask endorsing state, versus California or Florida, where coronavirus infections have seen a new high and beginning to show impact on the local medical systems.

Pres. Trump however, does not plan to enforce a national mask mandate, which, given how Americans have responded to any “mandate,” shows that the policy would be highly ineffective, even if he were to take such action.

While Dr. Fauci and the Surgeon General initially did not endorse mask wearing in February and March, telling only those showing symptoms to wear masks, they soon changed their statements once they realized that wearing masks sooner would prevent the spread of coronavirus.

So far, 7 national chain stores (with more on the way) have begun mandating masks on Monday, and so did conservative states such as Arkansas.

As media and government now unite in their efforts to promote masks, more and more Americans are donning face coverings or masks to protect themselves and others from the spread of coronavirus.
