LAPD identifies the mass shooting suspect as 72 years old man

Most Asian Americans celebrate the Lunar New Year as a custom. Dancing and traditional food sharing with families and friends is a common trait shared among many of the Asian societies and cultures that celebrate the Lunar New Year.

However, the opening into the Water Rabbit Year has become quite dark. LAPD found out that the gunman Huu Can Tran (72) died of self-inflicted gunshot wounds in his white van on Sunday after killing at least 11 and injuring 10 people at the Star Ballroom Dance Studio, Monterey, CA, on lunar new year’s eve, and trying to get into a dance studio in Alhambra, CA. He was a former dance instructor at one of the dance studios, according to the police.

Police issued a search warrant to the suspect’s house and seeks of the motive of this heinous crime. His ex-wife doesn’t want to let her name known but reported to CNN, that she met him at the dance studio, and that he was a very hot-tempered dance instructor at the studio. She told CNN that Tran came from China. The Asian American community was shocked by this massacre; most of the residents that frequented those dance studios are well over 50 years old and had enjoyed dancing as a routine way to enjoy their lives.

President Biden offered his condolences to the victims of this mass shooting and ordered flags to fly at half-staff at the White House and other federal buildings. 7 injured people are still staying in the hospital. Police are still investigating this mass shooting.

Police found enough magazines with a semi-automatic weapon and a handgun. Police have identified the owner of those guns.
